Podcast EP #92
This episode addresses our human tendency to infantilize animals when we only see them as cute. Later in the episode I’ll be telling you about a book I’m writing on grieving the loss of animal family members and then requesting we work in reciprocity with the free online content I offer. Thank you for listening, downloading and sharing!

Why I Propose Reciprocity
Join In!
I have been exploring the importance of reciprocity in my work and the impact that reciprocity has on our changing world.
Part of my spiritual practice is being consciously aware of who I am and how I choose to show up daily in the world. As the world changes, so do my choices.
With few exceptions in my life, I have chosen to be self employed while living as a single, childless woman in a capitalistic society that views self employment, particularly for women at least of my generation, outside of the acceptable work ethic. I’m pretty sure it’s due to my tenacity as an Aquarian sun and Aries moon that has kept me dogging on in self employment over the decades.
Since Day 1, my work has always been transaction based - there’s a set fee, a set time and there are clear expectations for me and the clients. It’s a one & done thing.
I realized I have been entangled in a Catch-22. I have always felt pressured into packaging and commoditizing my services in order to survive, and that has left me feeling cornered and resentful.
With that recognition a huge wave of relief and an almost unbearable sense of grief, chagrin and sorrow happened.
Now, instead of thinking of my work as a business structure, a one and done deal, I’m learning to embody it as an ecosystem. In my mind’s eye I see organisms facilitating the flow of energy in the true kinship ecosystem, supporting the energetic life and presence of true kinship in today’s world. Currently those organisms are your financial energy & contribution and my energetic creativity, encouragement & guidance.
I’m inviting you to be my companion in this journey of true kinship and reciprocity.
Financial contributions made in reciprocity are applied to business expenses. These expenses run approximately $200.00 USD monthly and are the tools I use to making true kinship available to you in a non-transactional manner. Additionally, yearly billing for website upkeep, hosting and programs is coming due and is additional to the monthly expenses.
Below are ways to make your contribution.

Thank you for your financial reciprocity and playing a part to make true kinship available for all AND much gratitude for those who already support my work in this way!
In transparency: We are in a world of change and I’m showing up as transparent as I know how to be at each moment in time. If you have questions or concerns, contact me.

Journal Prompt
What are 3 different ways I can cultivate a true kinship relationship with animals in the neighborhood?
Practice Suggestion
Take a walk paying attention to the animals you hear. If you’re in a metropolitan area where it might be hard to hear animals, pay attention to the animals you see. Keep a record of this for a week and at the end of the week review your record. Do you notice a pattern?
Just For Today #1
Altar Basics
Creating an altar serves as a bridge between you, your intention(s) and the animals. It is a meeting place where you can regularly connect in a spiritual way and serves as an outer, physical reminder of your inner intention(s).
The altar is a physical reminder of your experience in Kindred and a daily reminder of your commitment and practice of true kinship. Altars don’t have to be static, but can and do change as you change.
The Affirmation
The world is in the midst of gigantic change right now. During this change, I hold small steps of true kinship with animals as the intentional pathway they are.
The Teaching
There is a large part of true kinship, the part we carry inside of us, that was forged by generations past, by family traditions and societal expectations. You’ve been so indoctrinated into these outdated traditions and expectations (you’re not alone!) that you accept them as a part of yourself and true kinship, without recognizing the effects they have on you and the animals.
Until a day arrives and you realize they are standing between you and your embodied experience of true kinship. You realize how restrictive they are. The time has come to see them for what they are and decide if you want to keep them or let them go for a new way of being.
Whatever you choose to call it, without the tools and support to manage that self talk, true kinship becomes staid - a concept that’s stuck in the past instead of being the living, breathing, changing energy that it is.
Glad you’re a part of the true kinship with animals Substack community!
