True kinship with animals is a way of being, not a journey with a final destination. It changes you. The changes are small and innocuous, sneaking up on you when you least expect it. At least that’s what is has been like for me.
This is not a cookie cutter approach to relationship, a one-size-fits-all template. It is different for every person, it’s different with each animal, it’s different with each season, it’s different on different days and it’s different with each stage of life.
Yet there are commonalities folx have mentioned to me:
They are more trusting the relationship they have with animals stems from each species’ individual agency and is reciprocal
They become more experienced in listening to embodied guidance instead of depending soley on their busy mind and the expectations of colonized society
They are more self aware of showing up in the world as who they are now while holding the awareness and tension that who they are now is constantly transforming
