Grab a cuppa your favorite beverage and get cozy. Ready? I want to share with you something I’ve been turning over in my mind the past few months. It’s about running an online business, transactions and reciprocity. This has been inspired by the work of Kening Zhu, an artist who guides creatives and entrepreneurs to build worlds on the Internet.

With few exceptions in my life, I have chosen to be self employed while living as a single, childless woman in a capitalistic society that views self employment, particularly for women, outside of the acceptable work ethic. I’m pretty sure it’s due to the tenacity of my Aquarian sun and the boldness of my Aries moon that has kept me persistently working at this over the decades.

Kening mentioned a point that deeply resonated with me, one I hadn’t realized I’d been experiencing for the entirety of my working career - that by choosing to participate outside of the accepted capitalistic system, I was feeling pressured into packaging and commoditizing in order to survive, which has led me to feeling cornered and resentful.

I heard that with both a huge wave of relief and an almost unbearable sense of grief, chagrin and sorrow.

If there’s one thing I know for sure is true kinship is not meant to be packaged or commoditized.

True kinship is its own essence and not confined to a colonized concept and therefore not monitored or dictated by colonized concepts.

If true kinship is outside of colonized concepts, where does that leave me as I struggle to support myself in a colonized society?

I have been exploring this new-to-me concept of living in a colonized society while working with visions and ideas that are beyond that concept. This is a step by step journey, filled with eureka moments and lots of oopsies, learning as I go.

If you are so inclined to join me, I heartily invite and welcome you!

Here’s where I am now: My online work, the podcast, the newsletter, my site and the blog are energetically and freely given with the intent that we see animals free of colonized eyes and relate to them through a new place of understanding, that of relationship-with instead of power over.

If you are called to come along and collaborate with me on this unmapped and undetermined journey, welcome aboard and let’s seek out ways to engage through reciprocity. My online work is my gift to you and what you give in reciprocity is your gift to me. Money is a blank slate, as are likes, comments, saves and shares. The Amazon wish list is another way to express reciprocity.

What are your ideas for practicing reciprocity together? Please let me know. Reciprocity is always optional and not transactional, yet its value is boundless.
