Hello folx!
It feels as if I, true kinship & this newsletter are coming out of a cave after a lengthy hibernation period. Crawling out, shaking out, taking a deep, restorative breath, seeing and feeling the world with clear, new sparkling eyes. 🐻
This time in the cave was not lost or wasted, it was essential. While there I dreamed of a world that honors true kinship with animals and chooses to no longer enforce colonized concepts and expectations on our animal kin or our relationship with them. I commemorated and shed many outdated versions of myself to make room for the next upgrade.
I don’t know what Janet Version I’m operating on now, but I do know it is time to bring those true kinship dreams into the world.

Each one of us is a part of something bigger - the world of true kinship with animals. We need a safe place where we can gather in genuine connection with other humans on the true kinship journey and share our dreams, struggles and wins. A place where we get each other and true kinship.
This edition (April 2025) of the newsletter is free to all subscribers - paying and non-paying. I want to make sure you get the opportunity to see what’s new and different and have the choice to participate in a way that feels comfortable to you.

I’m glad to see you here in the new version of the true kinship with animals substack community! As a paying member, you get a behind the scenes look at my own true kinship journey, particularly through my eyes as a first time author. My hope is you’ll find these snippets relatable to your own journey, accepting the context and inspiration.
So far I’ve learned:
Yes indeed, I am capable of making a fresh pot of coffee for inspiration and then forgetting about it, sometimes more than once a day 🤦🏻♀️
The book doesn’t write itself, I have to sit down and write……which is different from talking about writing. Huge lesson for me 🤦🏻♀️
Every chapter I write is the best piece that’s ever been written, until I hit the send button 🤦🏻♀️
I write lots of run on sentences 🤦🏻♀️ ⬇️
But seriously………The book’s premise is grieving animal family members in a healthy way that honors the relationship, the animal and you, while living in a colonized society where grief traditions reflect society’s discomfort with grief and an interruption to colonized life.
